Local Job Fair This Independence Weekend in Cebu

As lifted from PIA -- Expect thousands of people to flock the local jobs fair tomorrow where 2,000 job vacancies are available in more than 52 private companies in Cebu on the second day of the three-day mega job and livelihood fairs which serves as the highlight of the Philippine Independence Day celebration.

With over 2T people who trooped to SM City Cebu today, the venue of the job generation event, on the opening day with only over 700 job vacancies in government, the figure may even triple as more job openings are made available to jobseekers tomorrow.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) Acting Regional Director Exequiel Sarcauga said that as of Wednesday, the job vacancies made available by participating establishments in Cebu was only over a thousand but this ballooned to 2,000 in just two days which showed that the impact of the global economic crisis in Central Visayas particularly Cebu is not that extremely drastic.

Sarcauga admitted that though the unemployment rate has slightly increased but that government is doing its best to make sure that job opportunities are still made available which is why the main feature of the 111th Philippine Independence Day celebration is geared towards job generation.

On Sunday, the overseas jobs fair provide 34,000 job orders for abroad from 50 placement agencies care of the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA-7) as those interested to apply for overseas work may visit the Trade Hall of SM City Cebu for detailed information on the specific job orders needed.

Here's a nice depiction of independence day :)

The overseas jobs fair will cap the three-day mega job and livelihood fairs that started today with job vacancies for government positions with over 700 slots available in different regional line agencies.

The jobs fair is the biggest event so far as this is conducted throughout the country with DOLE as the lead agency.

Press Sec. Cerge Remonde who represented Pres. Arroyo in Cebu to lead the Flag Raising ceremony said the greatest enemy faced by the country today is still poverty which is why the President makes job generation a top priority agenda especially in the face of the worldwide economic meltdown.

Today also witnessed the awarding of employment contracts to 3,000 job-hired workers in government where different government agencies allotted 1.5 percent of their Monthly Operating and Other Expenses (MOOE) to hire temporary workers in government good for six months as mandated by Pres. Arroyo under the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

Four thousand beneficiaries of training vouchers and grants under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship were also awarded today while no less than 113 checks for various livelihood programs extended by different government agencies were likewise given to beneficiaries that included local government units.

The municipality of Lilo-an and the cities of Lapulapu and Mandaue are just three of the LGU-beneficiaries of DOLE-7 where the latter gives counterpart funding for their Emergency Employment and Livelihood Program to help their respective constituents especially those that have been displaced by the global economic crisis.

With the program, the Lapulapu City Government has made available 2,280 job orders while the city of Mandaue has 1,790 job orders while there are still 562 vacancies left, Sarcauga bared.

Sarcauga said more livelihood grants will be given to intended beneficiaries as their agency aims to extend assistance in every way they can.

Looking For a Job? BPO Job Opportunity

Seeing that call centers and BPO places are retrenching, I happen to know a company that is expanding. Here's the deal, you can email me your resumes and I'll forward them to that company. No joke, I'll let you know if I've forwarded your resume via email as well. Send your resumes to this address: yhadz.alterego@gmail.com or leave a comment below with your email address

Here's what the company needs:
  • College graduate/ college degree
  • Above average communication skills
  • Preferably with customer service experience
  • Willing to work nights
For the protection of the company I cannot disclose their name here. I'm not in a position to divulge that information publicly just like that.

The place isn't perfect but they pay rather well. Minimum is 20,000 per month so that's pretty good. I think it's a good place to start for new graduates or at the very least, a job opportunity for those that just lost their tenure.
